The apple didn’t fall far from the tree,
unlike the balloon that runs away
from the painful pricks of the cactus.
The duck bathes in the sunlight,
so hot that it could bake an egg.
His fish friend glances at him
with his glassy eyes too far apart.
Hearts beat in unison with
the ice cream truck passing by.
Little kids’ jelly legs chasing after it,
as if it is the key to happiness,
not knowing life will throw lemons.
The moon has nowhere to hide,
there is no space to nest itself in.
Orange shines from the sun on
the white Arctic of dancing penguins.
The Queen Her Majesty orders
the rainbow to bow down before her,
but not even the stars would.
Teeth grow, bite, and fall out,
umbrellas expand and detract,
volcanoes explode and destroy.
Only water flows and has no shape.
The music rings from the xylophone,
there are red and blues, but yellow is
the zebra’s favourite note.
